Beware! Always Ask your VPS Provider About CPU Clock Speed and Drives being used

You may find a a lot of VPS Providers popping up these days and some of them even offering like 2 CPU Cores even with a 512 MB VPS that too very cheap, but always ask the following few basic questions before ordering:

CPU Clock Speed
Kind of Drives Used
Are they using RAID 10
Do they Provide Native IPv6 and is it a /64 if you don’t get a /64 then it’ useless as /64 per customer is the minimum standard for IPv6 because all RBL now block a /64 and not individual IPv6 IP so if another user from same /64 is an abuser even you will be blocked/banned so it’s best to get a separate /64
Is your provider offering unmetered data transfer ?
Are they offering DDOS protection ?
Ask for a test IP and check latency, just ask for Looking Glass if they have any, something like https://lg.hosteons.com

A lot of Chinese users who are using our KVM VPS Hosting services are looking for Chinese Version of Windows 2008 so now we have added Windows 2008 Chinese version ISO in our VPS control Panel, you can simply mount Windows 2008 DVD and boot your VPS from ISO and install Windows 2008 in your VPS in Chinese language, since our VPS are based in RAID 10 SSD Drives, installation should not take more then few minutes, I hope our Chinese VPS users will like it.

TCP Block by GFW in China – GFW在中国的TCP阻止

Until now Chinese GFW used to block whole IP but we have noticed that now GFW is even blocking certain TCP Ports for new IP ranges, so if you just get your VPS and find that you are unable to SSH to your VPS but you are able to ping your VPS IP then it means that GFW has blocked your SSH Port so all you need to do is just change your SSH Port in your VPS SSH Config file and restart SSHD, use any random port like 443 etc… and it should work, if you are not familiar with it just submit support ticket at https://my.hosteons.com we will do it for you. If you have any other queries then too submit a support ticket we will clarify them to you.

As per our previous post we added a new VPS Node 64 CPU cores and got it in production on 7th July 2018 and it is giving really good performance for our VPS Services and it’s already about to get full so we are now adding another VPS Node in LA, USA with following configuration:

New VPS Node Ready

Our new VPS Node with 64 Cores, 256 GB RAM and SSD RAID 10 is ready. All new VPS will be now setup on this new VPS Node, this serve has following specs:

CPU: 4 x AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 6380

RAM: 256 GB

Drives: 6 x 1 TB SSD

Network: Gigabit

New VPS Node with 64 CPU Cores

Until now we have been using Dual Xeon 5680 or similar CPU for our VPS Nodes but these CPU had 6 Cores in each CPU and with hyper threading it increases to 12 Virtual Cores per CPU so basically we were getting in total 24 CPU Cores Per VPS Node which means multiple VPS were sharing same CPU Core but since we were using Xeon 5680 CPU due to it’s high Clock Speed of upto 3.3 Ghz it was not affecting VPS Performance, but now our new VPS Node will with Quad AMD Opteron 6380 CPU.

AMD Opteron 6380 CPU comes with 16 Core Per CPU and since we are using Quad we will get total 16 x 4 = 64 CPU Cores

But clock speed of this CPU is 2.5 Ghz and not 3.3 Ghz. But now since we got a lot more CPU core per VPS Node it means that a CPU Core will be hardly shared among multiple VPS, most of the times all VPS Will get a dedicated CPU Core which means better performance even though it’s clock speed is a little slow then our current VPS Node. This new VPS Node is costlier then our current VPS Node setup, but we want to keep improving quality of service without increasing the price hence we are doing this change.

We expect our new VPS Node to be ready by next week, it will not affect any existing customer, but once our current VPS Nodes are full all new VPS will be setup on our new VPS Nodes.

We will be still using KVM Virtualisation with Pure SSD RAID 10 setup for best performance.
